Hi green, There a few things that might help with determining if your Triton Reference towers are working properly.
First, when looking at the passive speaker components used in this tower, these components are not normally damaged by a storm/power surge. When exposed to a power surge, the tower's built-in amplifier (and possibly their passive crossover network) could could be damaged, but it's unlikely the midranges and woofers themselves would be damaged. When the amplifiers built-into these towers are damaged, they will most likely not produce any bass - or they'll produce bad sounds on their own. When a passive crossover goes bad, it will normally block any sound from passing to the midranges or tweeters - or greatly reduce the sound that passed through to the midranges and tweeters.
When looking at the passive speaker components, I would consider gently pushing on the center part of each of the midrange and woofer cones to make sure you do not hear or feel any scrapping from these cones. The cones should move in and out smoothly. (This will help to determine if the voice coil or voice coil formers are bent or not.)
Taking an ohm meter to the binding posts of the tower would not provide a meaningful measurement. At that point, you would be measuring the input impedance of the built-in subwoofer amplifier - and not the impedance of any of the speaker components.
