I have an Onkyo TX-NR5008 which supports 2 subwoofers. I know in the documentation for the Triton Two it talks about using a Y splitter to connect to the AV Receiver, but I believe this is more applicable if the reciever doesn't support ".2" configuration. Is there any issue with connecting each subwoofer from the Triton Two to the AV Receiver since it supports ".2" configuration?

thanks,
Missagh

No issue, exactly as you suspected (not too many receivers have this nice option). That said, we still recommend using a speaker wire only connection and setting your system up with Left/Right Fronts set to "Large" and Subwoofer set to "None" (center and surrounds to "Small").

thanks Karma.

I just wanted to see if there is a difference between using straight speaker cable and connecting the subwoofer as well. I also wanted to see how my receiver handled the subwoofer portion. I ran Audyssey and it set everything up beautifully. Also, with Onkyo there is no "Large" setting. They recommend setting to THX (80Hz) if the speakers are certified THX and "Full Band" if the front speakers are towers. I have the SuperSat 50 for my center and older speakers for my Front High and Surround. I'm now running 7.2 configuration. I will eventually get the GoldenEar Sattelites so all speakers are matched accoustically.

Yes, that is one of many variations by brand to the Dolby bass management standard. I believe the "Full Band" and "No Subwoofer" settings gets you to the same place. But certainly there's no harm in experimenting with both types of hook up, of course.

I think though you get a bigger sound with ".2" if your receiver supports it. Documentation should be updated to reflect ".2" option. Speakers are still not broken in, but sound awesome. Can't wait for Scarface Blu-Ray in September and the updated Top Gun Blu-Ray in December.

Hello,
There are two reasons why I would want to set the speakers to "small" and allow my receiver to do the bass management.

First, my receiver has Audyssey MultEQ XT and Audyssey applies many more correction filters to the subwoofer output below crossover than to the main speakers (above the crossover.)

Second, by setting the main speakers to small and delivering all the subwoofer + LFE signal to the subwoofer, the power demand on my receiver is lessened. The subwoofer(s) amplifier(s) supply the energy below the crossover.

You said, "But certainly there's no harm in experimenting with both types of hook up, of course." Does this also apply to my desire to improve Audyssey performance and lessen the load on my receiver by setting the mains to small?

I believe it's correct to say that only movies have LFE. What a waste not to use a PAIR of 1200 watt subs for LFE and everything below the crossover.
