Hi Rick,
My preamp (Yamaha CX-A5200) has a pair of component sub outs and a pair of balanced.
I take one component, split it, and send that signal to the T Refs. Yes configure them as large via the preamp.
Then take the other component, send it to my old sub.
Then take one of the balanced and send it to the new sub.
I have room for one more balance-connect sub! :-)

Overall a great improvement for movie watching.
I need to play around with surround selections etc for music listening and see if the subs make much difference. For example I don't like the audassy (or whatever) room correction for music so usually play via "straight" mode, which I believe doesn't send signal out the sub outputs. Will report back if I make any progress on that front...
