Hello I am planning to buy an install a pair of Invisa HTR7000 as my right and left side surrounds as I can not make on walls on stands.

Question I have is that I have a long couch (4 seats). I have approximately 8 feet ceilings. In terms of placing the speakers behind and on the sides of the MLP, what should I consider Main Listening position? the center of the couch? and also, the positioning recommended in this forum (8-10 feet behind) is that a horizontal distance from the MLP measured in the ceiling to the exact top of the MLP of line of sight from the MLP to each speaker? there is a huge difference and I may not be able to make it if horizontal

Thanks in advance and greetings from Spain!

Hi Milenario, First, when setting up your surrounds, I would presume your main listening position would be toward the center of your long couch.

Next, the Invisa HTR7000s play at a 30 degree angle from the ceiling surface. When placed in a 8 foot ceiling - (and assuming an ear level of approximately 3 feet above the floor), I would recommend placing each of the Invisa HTR7000s speakers approximately 7 -8 feet away from the main listening position. However, since the Invisa HTR7000s have a reasonably wide or broad dispersion pattern - you could place each of the Invisa HTR7000s a bit closer to the main listening position without any issues. (I would also suggest aiming each of the Invisa HTR7000s toward the center of the long couch.) Happy Listening!

Thanks a lot for your reply. Indeed the MLP is not the center of the couch but the sides (I know, is weird, but the side seats are the most confortable ones :-))

Unfortunately your suggestion of 7-8 feet can not be respected in my living room ... but by 8-10 feet do you mean the distance between the tweeter to the MLP in direct line of sight? If not possible, would 4-5 feet be also ok? Sorry I am not clear on what distance we are talking about here.

Thanks

Hi Milenario, Thanks for the follow-up. The distance of 7-8 feet away for each Invisa HTR7000 would refer to the distance each speaker is away from the center of your long couch. For example, if you measured the direct distance from the center of the couch to the left in-ceiling speaker, ideally, you would measure 7-8 feet. The same would be true for the right speaker. Considering you are measuring "up and over" to each speaker, 7-8 feet should not be too far away from the center of the couch.

Next, since your main listening position will be "off to the side" of the couch, you can electronically control the volume of each surround speaker (through your AV receiver or AV processor) so each surround speaker can be heard at the proper volume from your "off centered" main listening position. Happy Listening!
