I just finished cutting the holes in my ceiling and popped a speaker in to verify they fit. so far so good. While I was looking at them i tried aiming the speaker by applying a light force perpendicular to the horizontal bars on the tweeter.The tweeter moves as expected, but they do not stay at the applied angle. Once i stop pressing they go back the central position. What am I doing wrong? I tried them both and they're the same, so i doubt that both of them are defective.

Maybe they don’t like being poked? Seriously though, are they meant to be adjusted like that? I’d think they are non-adjustable

Hmm, never seen that, the ones I've used will stay where they are put, sort of. They will not stay at maximum deflection, they kick back just a tad, but certainly not to center. Do they rotate like they should? Might try rotating them 180 degrees first and then trying to tilt the tweeter.

Yes, they rotate fine. I can change their angle them provided, I push perpendicular to the horizontal bars. I tried some slight force parallel to the bars and they won't budge.

The problem is they appear to be spring loaded to the center position and as soon as I release the force they pop right back to the center.

I have 2 of these speakers and they both act the same way. As it is, I'm losing the angle of a directed speaker, and they're firing straight down to the floor as opposed to toward the seating position.

Sorry, no idea. Can you take them back to the dealer to evaluate and replace if necessary? They should stay tilted once set.

So, I figured out my problem. I was applying the force to move the tweeters along the wrong axis. The manual is terrible unclear and needs to be changed. It does say to "push gently in direction of horizontal slots" but the accompanying picture clearly shows the force arrows being applied perpendicular to the slot lines. I was following the picture and the tweeter would move but would not hold. Eventually I tried to apply the force parallel to the slot lines and the tweeter held in place. So problem solved. i'm hoping I didn't damage the tweeters trying to follow the confusing manual. I've attached the confusing part from the 650 manual.
