I currently have DefTech BP30s (large non-power towers), DT 2500 powered center & Supercube 1. I've been really drinking Sandy's Kool-Aid and itching for some Tritons after a number of listens... but not in my home. At CES a couple years ago Sandy or one of his folks mentioned the BP30's as being a favorite project back in the DT days. If anyone knows those speakers I'm wondering if the Triton 7s can give similar or better impact & soundstage.... I would keep the Supercube 1 sub. Also, not sure the SuperCenter XL Center will fit my cabinet, so how might the Supercenter X stack up? Not sure I want to wait for "someday" to get the larger tritons, but if you REALLY think so I will convince the wife and sell the supercube sub Running Pioneer Elite SC-65 & Oppo 103 and LOVE DVD-A/SACD... Mellowing with age, but not really a classical fan... more like Unplugged rock. Must use ceiling speakers as rears.

Hi Stickday,
That is a good question and I want to say right off, I am not the right person to answer your direct question. I own a pair of Triton 2s and a pair of Triton 3s. And working on ForceField 5 as well. So, I also do like Sandy's Koolaid. ha ha
But, since you now have the BP 30s and a sub and a powered center, it looks to me like you like bass (as I also do).
How can I say this without sounding like the Triton 7s are not a good speaker???? Because I am sure they are awesome and some on this forum SWEAR by them!!!! LOVE them.
I just think that you will be missing a LOT of bass with the Triton 7s.
If I were you, I would listen carefully first before getting the 7s. And audition the Triton 2s or 3s.
For me, the Triton 2s cannot be beat!!!! (Unless you have a LOT more money to spend, or until the Triton 1s come out)
If you are looking to down size, then you might try the Triton 3s, which sound GREAT too.
That is just my 2 cents worth, but please take it for what it is worth, I have not had the pleasure of hearing the Triton 7s. A friend of mine has and he bought 2 pairs of the Triton 2s. Everything else might be perfect, but some of us just have to have our bass.
Whatever you do, stay with Sandy's Koolaid and I am sure you will enjoy the tunes. And let us know what you decide and how it turns out for you? Thanks.
God Bless, Wayne

Hi Stickday, welcome to the forum. I'm afraid I can't make that comparison for you, other forum members will have to do so if they can, but I can tell that "someday" is around June 15th (the date Triton Ones should be in dealers' showrooms).
Regarding your question on the SuperCenters, the SuperCenter X and XL use basically the same active components, the XL has a larger cabinet and a larger moving surface area (two passive radiators), which gives it a bit more bass extension, power handling and dynamics at the lowest frequencies. With proper bass management for each model (receiver's crossover setting), the differences will be virtually unnoticeable - unless you play at VERY loud levels in a very large space.

Mr. Wayne... talkin' about humor, thanks for getting my gist on "kool aid". After I posted, I did not want to give ANY impression there is any hyperbole or a blind following of GE's very driven and talented leader. Yes, they have to toot their own horn, but I have heard all of their current speakers over the last couple of years and they really are excellent value and just darn excellent. I've heard the 7's, but not with a sub. With my current DefTechs being Bipolar I imagine my current sound may be more "full" than GE, but with GE having much more imagery and placement (and of course, GOTTA LOVE that sweeter tweeter). May just end up having the local rep bring a pair or two by... that will get me committed.
SAF
- T1, I'll be living in the small bedroom with them and my neck brace from head banging too much!
- T2, I'll take crap on the size for 6 months and then they will be invisible to her. I will hear about the $$ I spent forever.
- T3, OK, maybe this is the sweet spot after all to retain my full bass and mids? After all the goal really is to downsize from my big boxes and gotta admit I love the curves that the 7s lack.
Ya Know, Glad I Posted, Thanks for taking your time... ya got a beautiful family there!!
Oh, BTW factually you are probably correct but I have always prefer to look at the Moon as half full.

Hey Stickday,
Is that like having a sick day to the T??? Thanks for your good, interesting, amusing and informative reply.
I see you are an optimist, moon always half full, funny.
Moderator Dude, I did not catch that Stickday was also looking at the debut of the Triton 1s, good catch, and good timing. My birthday is a day after you reckon they will be out, just sayin!!
Stickday, thanks for the nice comment about the fam. And you and your humor are very welcome here. I don't think the Moderator Dude will even mind your KoolAid comments.
Just a word about your real question that we might be struggling to answer: I understand that the BP 30s are bipolar, AND that they are BIG and you may well want to down size. And I suspect you want to gain sound quality in the exchange, NOT lose any.
Let me just say, I have been a ribbon man for years, I have owned and listened to Apogee Stage speakers for dog's years. I HATE boxy sound, I LOVE open bipolar sound--I won't go into that because you obviously know what I am talking about, you went that way with the BP 30s. The Triton 2s and 3s are the first dynamic speakers I could not only stand, but LOVE. They bring a few things to the mix that I really needed. One, the WAF, you called it SAF. Heck, whole fam damly acceptance factor, the Apogees had to sit out so far into the room and took up sooooo much room, even I had trouble accepting them. Though they sounded great (except for needing a LOT of bass help, I had to have a sub with them)
I may not have the Tritons placed optimally, they are not far out into the room, but my room is small. The image well, but perhaps could be a bit better. But I have had NO complaints from the wife or family over them, only ooohs and aaahs that they sound so great. The black cloth blends right in (I LOVE nice WOOD, heck who doesn't? These babies are not the prettiest) I suspect they blend in precisely because of the black cloth, no heavy wood furniture look.
And you are sooooo right that tweeter is SWEET, that gives me the lightning fast highs and upper mids that I had with ribbons, but have the bass, wonderful bass, that is located with the highs and mids.
I can understand if you want to wait for the ones, I can understand if you want to go with the T7s and then add your sub. BUT I am just saying, my vote is for Triton 2s, or possibly 3s if you want to downsize really.
Whatever you decide, keep drinking the KoolAid, and Enjoy,
Blessings,
Wayne
