I was hoping someone can help me. I've had a FF4 for about 4 years now. No problems. Suddenly, I am getting a random "boom" noise from my subwoofer. My receiver is not even on. I am not playing any music and the tv is off. The auto on/off green light is on in the back of the sub. My low pass is set around 70. And my sub volume is about half way.
It is really annoying because it happens all day and in the night time. It kind of shakes the room.
Any ideas? I hope my FF4 is ok.

Does the noise persist and the subwoofer stay on if you disconnect the LFE cable? If so, I'm guessing it's the FF4. You should e-mail GET's tech support or contact your dealer. Maybe Moderator Dude could confirm? Good luck and keep us posted invade someone else has the same issue.

No the noise does not persist when I unplug my Monster LFE cable.
I emailed GET support for help. I've heard it could be the sub's amp that has gone bad, or some driver in the amp.

If the noise stops when you unplug the audio cable (sub is still on as indicated by green light), it is most likely not the sub. You would have to connect the sub to a different system to verify (something your dealer can do for you). It is likely something being sent down the audio cable, either coming from your receiver, or a connected source, or perhaps some outside interference (although this more likely causes hum or static noise, not "booms").

Also, make sure the cable itself is not defective or loose - a bad connection on a cable end can cause a pretty loud boom when it cuts in and out.
