We recently installed the following:
Pioneer SC-35
- GoldenEar TritonTwo (front left and right)
- GoldenEar 50c (center)
- Klipsch rears - we are waiting for the GoldenEar in ceiling speakers to complete the setup
- Pioneer Kuro - the last (and final) generation
We have been absolutely blown away by the speakers. I've demoed the setup to friends with dramatically more expensive systems (their subwoofer is more expensive than the pair of Triton Twos) and they are stunned.
They have truly changed how we spend our time, and expanded the material we enjoy. Blu-ray recordings of concerts are now a huge favorite. You have to love those uncompressed audio tracks.
I let the Pioneer perform it's auto-setup, and although it did a great job of balancing the speakers, we feel the best quality sound was achieved after disabling all the "fancy" sound enhancements. The GoldenEars don't need the help in my opinion. We also have the subs at the break in setting - it's enough.
One of the best aspects of the setup for us is just how clean the Triton Two's handle the crossover. It's just balanced. Never do we feel overwhelmed, and yet when LFE is needed the subs do their job effectively. There is no "boomy" effect.
For demos these are my favorites:
- Flight of the Phoenix - During the plane crash there is more LFE activity than on any other blu-ray we've sampled. When the plane is turning upside down you are shaking with the passengers. This is the scene where I get asked how there could be no dedicated sub. Of course, after the crash it's good to have some quiet time - it's exhausting.
- Shakira Oral Fixation Tour - I know... Shakira. It's an uncompressed soundtrack with a stunning visual presentation. Wherever, Whenever is my favorite demo song - it's a full range of sound with lots of strong bass notes that vibrate the room.
- Chris Botti in Boston - Chris is an outstanding performer, the soundtrack is impeccable, and the cast of stars remarkable. Sting, Dominic Miller, Josh Groban, Katherine McPhee, Yo-Yo Ma, Lucia Micarelli, Sy Smith, John Meyer, Steven Tyler, and the Boston Pops Orchestra. There is guaranteed something on this blu-ray for everyone. Steven Tyler singing to his father is my favorite demo song.
Well, time to get back to watching/listening to the just released Billy Joel: Live at Shae Stadium blu-ray.
How did we live before? I shudder to think about it. Thanks for an outstanding product! Now we just need those in ceiling speakers.
Any thoughts on a marine line?
